Green -- as moss!

It is ALWAYS green here, even in the middle of winter. These are taken at the back of my yard, where we have deep woods. If something doesn't move, moss grows on it, including rocks. The sword ferns are there year-round, too. New growth comes out in the spring.
You know how if you are lost in the woods, you look for the moss on the tree trunk so you can tell north? (Moss always grows on the north side of the trunk). Well, not here--it grows all the way around the trunk. Better have a compass with you!
More mossy branches, dripping with the green velvet, backlit and mysterious.
And, once the moss is established on the trees, then opportunistic plants take hold. You see trees covered in moss and ferns all the time out here.
You can tell a true Northwesterner because they have moss between their toes! LOL!

Green -- wet

Washington is known as the Evergreen State. As you can see, even the water is green! These first two are a stream up in the mountains close to my house.

This is an older shot, but just to show you that even the ocean has a green cast sometimes, especially under the piers. The tide is out, and you can see the barnacles on the pilings.
Ok, so I got a little silly...this is a detail of the bubbles in my bottle of dish detergent...
and this is an acrylic glass that has bubbles in it. DH had some noxious drink in the glass, and when he sat it on the window sill I noticed the deck railing showing up in the bubbles. Of course, out came the camera and around rolled his eyes...LOL!!
And this is WHY we don't grow tulips around here. My neighbor tries pots of tulips every year, and every year the deer and elk take care of them for her. The deer chew everything down; the elk pull the bulbs out. You can see the daffodils are still fine; the sap in them is poisonous, so they get left alone. Tulips, though, are delicacies!!

Greens that don't grow

Still trying to stay non-botanical, but I can tell it won't last...

A piece of Chihuly glass that I saw in a gallery on Maui. The gallery worker was fine with me taking photos! But boy, the lighting in there, while wonderful for showing all the glass work, was really difficult for me for photos...
These 2 are from the big nursery/gift shop that ML (PeriwinkleEye) and I were at yesterday. You can easily spend hours there with a camera. So many textures, patterns, designs and PLANTS!! This was a detail from a bird bath...
These are pot feet, that you put under a pot to lift it so it doesn't sit on your floor/deck and stain it. The balls nestle up to the outside of the pot, and the long part goes beneath the pot. It's gonna have to be a pretty awesome pot to put something this pretty under it!!
This was at a discount store; a glass vase shaped like a purse. I noticed that the vase next to it had a mirrored surface and there was a wonderful reflection happening (same thing as the rocking chair photo yesterday. I love reflections!)

Just couldn't resist this one!!

Green for St. Patrick

Can't get out today, so I am using these from my files. Besides, they were too "on theme" NOT to use! I am going to try stretching and finding some non-botanical subjects for this, since I can do green with plants, etc, until the cows come home....starting tomorrow, right?

Animals: Rare Sighting

I love bird watching, and was fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the rare pink peeper. These birds usually travel in a tight flock configuration, and are rarely seen alone. It is difficult to catch them in a native habitat. Often seen in a yellow coloration, both the pink and yellow peepers are seen during the spring of the year.

Spring....

...in the Northwest means rain, mist, drizzle, mizzle, showers; I think we've had all of it today, along with the famous sunbreaks. So, since all self-respecting animals and birds are trying to stay dry, I whipped out onto the deck between moist moments and tried out my new tripod. Like anything, there will be a learning curve, but I am going to LOVE it!

Love the reflection of the deck railing in the large raindrop.

This one was taken without the tripod. This pot of hellebores is right in front of the black grill cover, which makes a perfect backdrop!
