I Spy, with my Abstract Eye....

I LOVE a good distorted reflection, and the way they make me feel like I've wandered into a Dali or Picasso painting. Took these a little while ago on a nice day, when the sun was out. I like the way the glass gave all those straight lines curves and waves; maybe these are new buildings for Whoville...don't these look Suessian?

Boating Season

A few more from this weekend over in Seattle. UW has a center where you can rent small watercraft; canoes, kayacks, sailboats... I couldn't resist all the canoes and patterns and the colors of the kayaks waiting to go.

Of course, once you are out of the water, you have to share it with bigger and faster boats!!

A little whimsy...

These umbrellas were deliberately set adrift in this pond, and the wind blows them across the water. It's like living sculpture. It was so whimsical and unexpected, and SO Seattle (real PNW residents don't use umbrellas) that I couldn't resist these shots.

THIS is why...

...I love Seattle. Days like this--sunny, warm, blue sky, a gift delivered between the gray rainy gloomy weeks. Today and tomorrow are going to be those gifts, before the next drift of rain settles in.
DH and I went over to Seattle, to the Montlake Cut, which is a channel connecting Lake Union and Lake Washington. Saturday was the Opening Day of Boating Season, so there is a lot of traffic through the Cut right now. The old bridge that spans the cut...
...can be opened to allow passage to sailboats with masts that are too high to go under the closed bridge.
There was a small flotilla of tall-masted sail boats, waiting to go through the opened bridge. You can see the Cascade Mts. in the background. What a DAY!!!This is the bridgekeeper's tower, where he can see up and down the cut, and operate the bridge when the boats signal. He can see Seattle, the Olympic Mts., and the Cascade Mts. Not a bad place to work, and lots of gorgeous boats to watch.

Water: falls again, and a wave

The rains and the melting snow in the mountains are turning a lot of the little trickles into fledgling waterfalls. The water is rushing and gushing and speeding down the mountainsides, and little waterfalls are turning up where you never see them in the summer.

Ok, this OBVIOUSLY isn't Seattle. I just had to throw this in to (rub salt in my wound) remind myself that water is actually blue and turquoise and jade and gorgeous when the sun shines (in Hawaii!)

Water: abstracted reflections

Can you figure this one out? (Answer at bottom)
Can you see me in the bubbles?
This little statue at the nursery was too cute and too on subject to pass up!
Answer: The blue drops are on the hood of my car after a rain; the "design" in the drops is my shadow, holding my P&S to get a shot. I tell ya, I'll shoot just about anything! I did get a few strange looks, though.

Water: the image within

Just a few water drops that act as lenses, showing what is behind/below them. I LOVE these things!! Who knew a raindrop could be full of magic?
